Myopia affects over 1.6 billion people globally, and ironically according to one of the largest vision research centre in the world, 2020 is the year that scientists expect an estimated of 2.5 billions of myopic people in the planet. How come? Well, let say that myopia condition, is the result of two major influential factors in our lives, and is impossible to escape from being exposed by them or at list from one of them.
Although we know that from our conception as a human being, (the genes) are a strong influence in each one of us, and so, we can not avoid to be exposed, even if none of our parents experience this condition. According to professor Brien Holden in Australia, there is a 75% chance that a child will born with myopia if both parents have this condition, 40% chance if only one parent present this condition and 25% chance if none of the parents have this condition.
In the other hand (evolution) is not getting behind, in others words as we move forward on technology, perhaps we are demanding or depending much more of it and so; studies have shown that cell phones, iPod, computers or any electronic device in general that require our near interactivity, are contributing to this condition as well, and is a matter of outdoor activities vs. indoor near activities that we can prevent or lower the risk. Let’s say for instances that you send a child to play any out door sport often, is very likely that he/she will have low risk of myopia, because the functionality of the eyes are exposed to work in full motion or (functionality).
